The LiftCare Bed Company (a Division of Gerontic & General Products Pty. Ltd. ) was incorporated in 1995 and is based at its Head Office in Chelsea Heights, Melbourne,  Australia with staff covering management, technical, marketing, sales, manufacturing liaison and procurement, administration, transport and service.

LiftCare pioneered the development of true 'floor level' nursing with its original 'LiftCare Mark 1' floor level bed, now replaced with the more advanced 'Protean' models.  It continues to lead the world in floor level nursing, the prevention of falls and avoiding the danger of injury and death from 'side rails' and other traditional restraint systems.

The company has its own sales representation and a network of Distributors to ensure adequate coverage throughout Australia.


LiftCare currently exports its core products to the UK, Europe, USA, Japan, Italy and New Zealand and plans to develop its international markets further.

The company out-sources the manufacture of its two core products to a dedicated, fully ISO9002 Melbourne accredited manufacturing company where component stocks, assembly, quality control and final packaging take place.  Other products include beds, patient transfer systems and Bariatric products are imported, usually under exclusive agreements.

Proven Product History


LiftCare developed the 'world's first floor level nursing bed over twelve years ago with the original 'LiftCare Mark I'.  This progressed through to the 'Mark 6'.  The latest refinement is the Protean Series 2 range of beds, together with the newer LC500 bed.

The increasing sales of these advanced beds demonstrate the growing recognition and value of LiftCare's "floor level nursing procedure" within the Australian and more recently, international healthcare markets.

LiftCare has also added the Barton Medical Corporation range of patient transfer systems, chairs and bariatric beds, all proven quality products through their extensive use in North America, Europe and Japan.
